Bearberry extract has antimicrobial (tannis), anti-inflammatory (gallic acid), and diuretic properties. Antiseptic properties are associated with the locally irritating and antimicrobial effects of phenol hydroquinone.
The diuretic effect of the bearberry is also associated with hydroquinone and other phenols: they irritate kidney tissue through it and increase urination.
Antimicrobial properties are associated with glycoside arbutin, which disintegrates into free hydroquinone and glucose under the influence of the enzyme arbutase.
The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects are determined by ursulic acid.
Hydroquinone has a rejuvenating, whitening and cleaning effect.
Bearberry is mainly used as an antiseptic in diseases of the urinary tract urethra, and bladder urethra. The combined action of bearberry leads to the purification of the urinary tract from pathogenic flora and inflammation products.
Bearberry is also used as an astringent, for heartburn, diarrhea, gastritis, colitis, and other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as for diabetes mellitus, gout, tuberculosis, atherosclerosis, rheumatism. Bearberry “milk” is used for the therapy of diarrhea and gastritis.
Bearberry extract may help reduce the severity of wrinkles, improve and brighten the skin (with hyperpigmentation), eliminate inflammatory and black dots.
